IAN KLUGE

February 10, 2017 Posted by Behrooz Sabet Experts

Ian Kluge is an independent philosophy scholar. He has published numerous lengthy articles on comparative religion and philosophy as well as on current topics such as atheism, science and religion, and meta-ethics in addition to articles and two books on the American philosophical poet, Conrad Aiken and his philosophy of consciousness. He is also a published poet and playwright whose works have been produced in various cities and towns in British Columbia. He received his B.A. (honors) at Notre Dame University of Nelson, B.C. where he won the Governor General’s Gold Medal for nationally outstanding scholarship. He went on to graduate studies at the University of Alberta where he received an M.A. and completed his doctoral program and dissertation on Conrad Aiken but left without a degree due to irresolvable differences with his committee. He first taught at Red Deer College in Alberta, but soon found his true calling in teaching high school and working with teenagers. His teaching was based on the belief that everyone – but especially teenagers – are natural born philosophers. He designed a “Great Philosophical Questions” program that could be adapted to grades 8 to 12 in the subjects he taught: Comparative Civilizations, World History and English. Ian Kluge and his wife Kirsti (B.Mus. in piano) have four grown children. His wife was a Kindergarten and grade one teacher. They married as students in 1973.
