February 10, 2017 Posted by Behrooz Sabet Experts

Gamal H. M. Hassan, b. 1944 in Egypt. After 23 years of working in oilfield and pharmaceutical industries that took him to top management positions in his homeland, he moved further south for a longer career (32 years to-date), first to Sudan, Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda where he is now based, where he worked in the diverse fields such as education, community development, construction, floriculture, ICT, both in service of other entities and self-employed. His work in Egypt and the heart of the Black Continent took him to many other countries in Africa, Europe as well as the US.

Gamal is currently semi-retired in favor of civil society activism in Uganda, through membership of civil society networks in the fields of human rights, women’s empowerment, environmental stewardship, and inter-faith discourses, and representing Uganda’s civil society at several international fora on religious rapprochement and sustainable development. In addition to regularly writing magazine articles and statements on such issues, he authored a book on the history of religion in Ethiopia, and translated into Arabic several major books on religious reform and world peace. It is through translation skill and inter-faith background that he is lending a helping hand to Burhan Institute.
